What is Field Supervisor Coaching Training?
Field Supervisor Coaching Training provides guidelines and instruction for field supervisor support to candidates seeking certification in an area other than classroom teacher and who are participating in practicum experiences through educator preparation programs (EPPs). The training focuses on structures and practices that support candidates’ development with respective certification standards for performance.
What is the purpose of Field Supervisor Coaching training?
The training has been developed to instruct field supervisors of EPPs in best practices for providing support and coaching to candidates and parallels the coaching these educators will receive under both the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) and the Texas Principal Evaluation and Support System (T-PESS). The goal is to align expectations for EPPs and candidates with the expectations of the state’s recommended evaluation and appraisal systems while providing programs with tools to provide meaningful feedback and support to their candidates.
What will the Field Supervisor Coaching training include?
The training includes the following:
- Rationale for the training
- Review of the field supervisor observation protocol
- Overview of the evaluation cycle: pre‐conference, observation, post‐conference in EPP contexts
- Instruction in collecting evidence relative to the certification standards and practices
- An inquiry-based approach to coaching and supporting candidates
- Level 1 and 2 field supervisor coaching competencies
- Coaching resources and tools
- Advancing actions and outcomes for candidates
Who needs to take the Field Supervisor Coaching training?
All field supervisors who support educational diagnosticians, master teachers, principals, reading specialists, school counselors, school librarians, and superintendent candidates who have been admitted to an EPP on or after December 27, 2016, and provide supervision to those candidates after September 1, 2017.
NOTE: Field supervisors who support these areas are NOT required to be a T-TESS certified appraiser.
What is the deadline for receiving Field Supervisor Coaching training?
Field supervisors who support candidates who have been admitted to an EPP on or after December 27, 2016, must complete this training before providing supervision.
